Recommended Acne Treatments

Let’s be realistic, we live in a world today with fantastic medicine. Treatments are popping up for just about every disease a person might have – acne treatments included.

And we all have acne right? Or, we’ve all had it at some time in our lives. I had it when I was a youth. Granted, I didn’t have a whole lot, but some nonetheless. Mostly, it would spring up on my forehead or on my temples. The worst was on my chin or upper lip. When I started shaving I’d cut those small pimples and they’d bleed – it wasn’t pretty.

Perhaps had I gotten some acne treatments under my belt I wouldn’t have had such misfortune. However, at the time I didn’t know what any were.

Luckily, now, I do.

Topical
A topical treatment is one that’ll be in the form of lotion. Over the counter acne lotions will kill bacteria and dry up oils. There are also a couple kinds of prescription lotions. One helps to unplug hair follicles while the other acts as an antibody killing excess bacteria. Generally these lotions are used in conjunction with each other for the best results.

Antibiotics
There are also oral antibiotics that can help reduce acne. These pills will reduce both inflammation and bacteria levels. Using them in conjunction with lotions, however, will yield the best results.

Laser
Lasers can do everything nowadays can’t they? Apparently, laser therapy can be used to reduce the oil created by the sebaceous glands (oil-producing). They’re also great for those who already have acne scarring as the treatment help improve the quality of the skin.

Cosmetic Treatments
Chemical peels and similar procedures that would normally help reduce lines on the face can be used for acne too. Not the best, but when used in addition to topical or antibiotic treatments, can be very effective.

Isotretinoin
What? Isotretinoin is a drug that’s reserved only for the worst, most severe, unchanging acne. It’s highly effective but can have severe side effects. Those who use the drug must remain under close watch.

It would be a wise idea to consult your doctor before trying any treatments that you are unsure of what the results may be. And other treatments may also exist. So, if your acne is severe and you can’t get it to go away, consulting your doctor is certainly the best option.

Acne treatments vary depending on severity. Perhaps you have one pimple every now and then? For you, some lotion is probably the best choice. Got severe acne that you can’t get rid of? Antibiotics with lotion might help you the best.

Regardless, acne is treatable and there are a plethora of options. However, taking action is the key to success.
